VPS stands for virtual private server. It is a method of dividing a physical server computer into multiple servers so in simpler words VPS is about multiple servers running within one physical server. Each virtual server is different than from the others and each has allocated specific resources such as RAM, CPU and disk space that is managed by the host server so it seems that each server has capacities to run like an individual dedicated server.

The term VPS hosting (virtual private server) is the latest technology that many enterprises are adopting. A VPS provides an extensive control over the web hosting environment, it provides root access to the servers which means that the enterprise can have complete control on their own servers.

VPS allows to host unlimited number of websites or domain ,allows the organisation to install third party application , host other services such as mail server, FTP server .

Why should an organisation shift to VPS?

Many organisations are shifting from shared hosting to VPS as it has many benefits over shared hosting. In shared hosting, all the website hosting share resource and operating system and there have been always a high risk of slowing down the server performance as well as security. Shared hosting is like sharing the apartment with strangers so there is always a high degree of risk involved in terms of security.

Whereas VPS gives the features of dedicated servers without paying for the cost of dedicated servers.

VPS hosting helps the organisation to handle more traffic on the website because in VPS each severs runs independent of each other and each VPS has its own file system as well as its own server load and it runs on its own operating system so for an end user it appears like a dedicated server apart from this there are various benefits of VPS hosting like Host unlimited domain , Full control over the web environment.

There  are various advantages of using VPS. Firstly VPS is more economical as compared to dedicated servers as we need not invest huge amounts in dedicated hardware. It promises to offer good performance VPS has ability to move from one server to another within a fraction of a second and each VPS has a specific allocation of resources so that if there is a crash on one server the other virtual server will not be affected.

Because of these various reason many organisation are going for VPS as a web hosting option.
